Although I have always known people are completely fake, I realized something even further.  The people who boast about being different, unique, and “their own” are the people who are the most fake.  These days, sooo many people conform to non-conformity.  It’s completely and utterly ridiculous in my mind.  It’s like people want so much to be different that they become the same.  For some obvious some not so obvious reasons, “being yourself” is a quality that alot of people want.  But if everyone wants to be different then aren’t they the same by all wanting to be different?  Let me try to say it again a different way.  If everyone wants to be categorized as “unique,” then it’s WHAT EVERY ONE WANTS, which is then the opposite of being “unique.”  Everyone is quick to claim that they: “don’t care what other people think,” “do things based on their desires alone,” and “are true to themselves.”  Oh, and also, one of my favorites includes the quote: “I am who I am and I won’t change for you.”  Well, how many times have I heard someone say that or read it in someone’s facebook’s “about me” section? Way too many times.  That is such a lie.  People change for other people all the time.

Back to my original statement that people who claim they’re different really aren’t.  From my experiences and observations, the people who I think are the most geniune are the people who don’t boast about their differences.  The people who are truly different and unique don’t care to alert the world that they are their own person.  Probably because quite frankly they don’t give a shit whether or not the world knows their different.  The people who claim not to care what other people think, in my eyes, are the most insecure.  They are insecure about themselves so they need to make both themselves and other people think they are comfortable in their own skin simply by saying they are.

I think 50% of the people who appear to be themselves are in actuality not themselves.  People are insecure about themselves, so they try to show that they are very self-confident by being out going and sometimes wild.  I think these people want other people to think that they are excentric in order to hide their true selves.  This might be because they are scared that their real personality will be less accepted than the one the wild one they put out.

I am in no way trying to imply that I am not one of these people who put on a face.  On some level, I probably am.  Most people are.  However, the main point of this post is to maybe help some people realize that they possess some quality of the people I have described.  And maybe upon realizing these things about yourself, you are compelled to show a little more of your true self.  Even if you are a plain jane, I personally find that far more interesting than a person with wild crazy stories because the plain jane is true and real (as gay as that sounds).
